Child Protection Success Stories: Child Health Foundation, Mumbai
1. Rescued from Child Labor: Rahul’s Journey Back to School
Rahul, a 12-year-old boy from a low-income neighborhood in Mumbai, was forced to work in a small factory to support his family. He spent long hours in hazardous conditions, missing out on his education and childhood. The Child Health Foundation’s rescue team, in collaboration with local authorities, intervened after receiving a tip-off from community members. Rahul was rescued from the factory and brought to one of our rehabilitation centers, where he received medical care and psychological counseling.
Today, Rahul is back in school, thanks to the foundation’s educational support program. He receives a scholarship that covers his school fees, books, and supplies. Rahul now dreams of becoming a teacher and helping other children like him get an education.
2. A Safe Haven for Pooja: Escaping Domestic Violence
Pooja, an 8-year-old girl, was living in an abusive household where she was frequently subjected to physical and emotional abuse. Her mother, too, was a victim of domestic violence and had no means to escape or protect her children. The foundation’s Child Protection Helpline received a call from a concerned neighbor, prompting immediate action.
Pooja and her mother were relocated to a safe shelter and provided with legal aid and counseling. The foundation helped Pooja’s mother find employment and secure a stable living environment for her children. Pooja is now enrolled in school and is thriving in a safe, supportive environment.
